Woke up this morning to a completely dead 2017 520i, couldn't even open the trunk which was fun to figure out. I know these modern BMWs are picky about batteries because of the IBS sensor and all that smart alternator stuff. A friend told me if I just swap it without registering, the car will overcharge the new one and kill it within a year. I started reading about bmw car battery replacement online and came across BatteryZoneUAE's page where they mentioned registering the battery as part of the service which caught my attention because most shops I called either didn't know what I was talking about or said "it's fine don't worry" which made me worry more. Has anyone here actually skipped the registration and been okay or is my friend right that I'm just throwing money away if I don't get it coded properly? I don't want to pay dealership prices but I also don't want to be doing this again next summer. The car has start stop which I hate anyway but apparently that system is really hard on batteries so I guess I need something decent. Just looking for someone who's been through this with a similar model year before I make a stupid decision.
